I knew I did not care for it. I knew this made me an anomaly among my friends, acquaintances and co-workers. I long ago decided I did not care, as long as I could excise the thing from my life. I can follow conversation that makes reference to it, because (let's face it), geeks lard their conversation with that kind of reference all the time and I need to be able to participate in conversations. This does not mean I will ever read a sequel, or listen to a radio broadcast, or watch a movie of the thing. Sorry. Not my thing at all.
Anyway, today, in a meeting, we were trying to decide how to celebrate the achievement of a milestone of great import to our organization. One of the geeks at the table said, "We could all go together to see the 'Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' movie."
Without even stopping to think, I said, "I'd rather throw up and then eat the vomit."
It's hard to believe such words came out of my mouth, especially at work. Needless to say, we picked a different way of celebrating.
